Language requirement
French language requirement
Université Laval is a French-language university, located in a French-speaking city. Although some courses and research activities may be given in English, the majority of classes and interactions take place in French. A basic knowledge of French is essential.
Certain requirements may apply if French is not your native language or if you have studied in another language. Please refer to your academic advisor to find out the requirements for your program.
English language requirement
Even if your program is offered in French, you should be aware that many programs require knowledge and use of English. For example, you may need to do some reading in English.
Many programs require a certain level of English to graduate. If you are studying in any of these programs, we strongly advise you to take an English proficiency test at l’École de langues de l’Université Laval at the start of your studies. Failure to meet your program’s English language proficiency requirements will delay your graduation, which can have serious consequences for renewing your legal status in Canada.
Please refer to your academic advisor to find out the graduation requirements for your program.
